In November of 2006 we went on record in support of plans to construct a new lake near the Bono area. Thanks to a unanimous vote by the Craighead County Quorum Court to advance the issue, voters will now get the chance to decide if they support this development.
Voters in Craighead County are going to have the opportunity to vote on whether or not to approve a tax hike that will fund the proposed Bono Lake project. The one percent sales tax increase is scheduled to appear on the ballot at an upcoming special election set for June 12.
Again, we support this plan for many reasons. Development of Bono Lake will provide a wonderful recreation area, increase tourism dollars and also help to prevent flooding in the Bono area.
If approved, the tax increase would last for only three months. Once the facility is constructed the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission would maintain the property.
This is a no-brainer. When you get the chance to vote next month, vote yes for the Bono Lake.
