Batesville Native Helps Soviet Soldiers Tell Their WWII Stories

BATESVILLE, AR - A Russian studies expert from Region 8 is helping Russian veterans of World War II tell their stories.

Stuart Britton, a freelance writer and translator from Batesville who now lives in Iowa, is at work translating the memoirs of Russian soldiers.  The books will be published by the University of Kansas press.

Britton says his job is to bring light to the stories of the average Russian soldier during the war...who for decades were not allowed to tell about their experiences.

Britton graduated from Batesville High School.  He earned a bachelor's degree from Southern Methodist University and a master's degree in Russian area studies from Georgetown University.
