State to Survey Residents of Ten Counties About Emergency Preparedness

PINE BLUFF, AR - The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management is conducting a telephone survey beginning May 21 to guage how well an agency program is preparing Arkansans in case of a chemical emergency at the Pine Bluff Arsenal.  The arsenal is one of several storage sites around the country for chemical weapons, and the military is in the process of destroying the chemical weapons in accordance with an international treaty.

The Department of Emergency Management says it will survey more than 1,000 residents in ten counties about their knowledge of the agency program and their preparedness for an emergency.  Those counties are Arkansas, Grant, Cleveland, Jefferson, Prarie, Lonoke, Dallas, Lincoln, Saline, and Pulaski.
