Bringing More Art to Downtown Pocahontas

POCAHONTAS, AR -- Some business owners in downtown Pocahontas are trying to get more to join them.   They are in the midst of forming the Downtown Art Association in hopes of brining more artisans to the area.

"With the demise of many of the old family owned department stores, this has opened up space for people to come in and put in businesses," said Dewrell Thompson.

There are rows of buildings that have been a part of the downtown for years and without tenants many could go downhill quickly.

"Any kind of artisan would be welcome.  Other crafts, other arts.  It would be nice to have a larger art community here," said Jann Campbell-Delk.

There are currently several shops that are a part of the community in the five block area of

downtown including Black River Beads, Artsy Angels, Mearle Norman, Camera Corner Portraits, and Pasture's Edge Fine Art.
