May 12, 2007 - Posted at 10:15 p.m. CDT RECTOR, AR -- High school seniors all across Region 8 are preparing for their future this month. Many will be deciding on colleges and careers...they've spent their entire lives waiting to get that diploma, but for one Region 8 senior...she's happy to live in the moment.
Most high school seniors can't wait to hear the familiar song graduation song of "Pomp and Circumstance."
"I was fine all day today and then I saw everyone with their dads when I got into the building and I wished my dad was here," said senior Abbè McCarroll.
When Rector High School senior Abbè McCarroll got to her seat, she noticed an extra visitor.
"I was so excited, I didn't even know he was coming and he just sort of popped up over there and it was awesome," exclaimed Abbè.
Sgt. First Class Johnny McCarroll is serving with the 875th Engineer Battalion in Iraq. He may have missed most of Abbè's senior year...but he made it home for the most important part.
Sgt. McCarroll said, "She kind of got suspicious one or two times, but we really worked it out to where she had no idea up until the end it was really a good surprise."
"Her and her team were able to go to the state basketball tournament and they also made it to the state softball tournament. I have been so honored to see everything but I have felt guilty because I've taken it all in and I've appreciated it so much that I've often thought, he's missed it," said Abbè's mother Susie McCarroll.
And as for wishes coming true... Abbè McCarroll can tell you all about it.
"I had a slight idea, but I didn't think it was true, so I just quit believing in it, it was such a good surprise, I'm so excited," said Abbè.
