Alleged Child Predator in Court

JONESBORO, AR -- A Region 8 man was in court on Monday on internet sex predator charges.  As K8 News first reported on Saturday - 28-year-old Alex Claxton of Cushman was arrested by the Jonesboro Police Department when he alledgely came to town to meet up with who he thought was a 14 year old girl.

Claxton faces charges of internet stalking and child pornography which are both felonies.

"He's been before Judge Blackman and a $50,000 bond was set in his probable cause hearing," said JPD officer Lt. Nathan Oliver.

Claxton worked as a volunteer at the Cushman Fire Department.

Lieutenant Nathan Oliver told K8 News the suspects are sometimes people you wouldn't think of doing something like this.

"It even shocks us that's have been around it for a long time," said Oliver.

"It's very much too explicit.  The conversations and the pictures that are being sent to us are very explicit.  We would never put a child in that situation," said Oliver.

As for Claxton, having these charges against him could stay with him if he's found guilty.

"They possibly could be labeled as a sex offender and have to register as a sex offender," said Oliver.

But their punishment if far less than the pain of the child that woud be effected by having contact with a child predator.

Claxton's next court date is on June 22nd in circuit court.
