Arkansas' Jobless Rate Rises to Five Percent

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Arkansas' unemployment rate rose one-tenth of a percentage point to five percent last month.

The state average remained higher than the national average of 4.5 percent, which also increased one-tenth of a percentage point last month.

In April, the number of employed Arkansans dropped by 6,000 to 1,311,500.

The state's number of unemployed Arkansans rose by 1,300 to total 68,800 in April.

The state Department of Workforce Services says that since 2006, the civilian labor force has increased by 15,800, with employment up 18,000 and the number of of unemployed dropping 2,200.
