Butler County Undergoing State Audit

JEFFERSON CITY, MO - A southeast Missouri county is the subject of a state audit that is now underway.  Missouri State Auditor Susan Montee has begun an audit of Butler County.  She urges anyone with information to call the auditor's toll-free hotline at 800-347-8597.  All information is to be kept confidential.

It is not yet known if this is a routine audit, but an automated attendant answers the line by saying, "you've reached the Government Waste and Abuse Hotline."

A team of auditors is now reviewing county records as part of the fieldwork phase of the audit.

The audit report, which will be available to the public, will include recommendations for any changes needed in county government operations.

People may also contact the auditor's office by writing to P.O. Box 869, Jefferson City, MO 65102 or by e-mail at moaudit@auditor.mo.gov.
