Gas Prices Continue to Set Records in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The average price of a gallon of unleaded gasoline in Arkansas rose two cents today, again setting a record.

The AAA says unleaded gas is up to $3.18 per gallon in Arkansas.  The national average today is $3.20.

Arkansas' average price is up 43 cents from a month ago, and up 49 cents from a year ago.

The AAA says all of Arkansas' metro areas except Texarkana have set records today.

The average price of a gallon of gas in Fort Smith was $3.35, up three cents from a day earlier.  A gallon of gas in Fayetteville, Springdale and Rogers was $3.34, while the Little Rock metro area saw an average price of $3.17.  Gas in Pine Bluff is $3.18 today, and Texarkana's average price is an even $3.

The average price in Jonesboro is $3.02 per gallon.  Reportedly, the cheapest gas in town is at the Valero station on West Nettleton Avenue, at $2.99.  The cheapest gas in Region 8 may be in Trumann, at the Liberty Deli & Market.  A spokeswoman there said the store is currently selling gas for $2.89 per gallon.

Despite the rising prices, the AAA says it expects travel over the Memorial Day weekend to increase this year.  The AAA said last week that about 32.1 million people are expected to travel over Memorial Day weekend, up 1.8 percent from last year.
