"SEMO Summer Outlaw Roundup" Nets 83 Arrests

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - Law enforcement authorities call it the "SEMO Summer Outlaw Roundup," and the SEMO Drug Task Force used to arrest 83 suspected drug offenders yesterday, including a man who apparently committed suicide after being locked up in the Stoddard County jail.

Police say 43-year-old James Dobbs of Bloomfield apparently hanged himself in his cell.  Dobbs had been a few hours earlier on a charge of distributing a controlled substance.  His death is being investigated by the Missouri Highway Patrol.

The SEMO DTF used the help of twelve police agencies from Portageville to Popar Bluff to Cape Girardeau as part of the investigation.
