EL DORADO, AR - Police say an El Dorado woman who was shot eight times as she held her two-year-old daughter is recovering at a local hospital.
Police say 34-year-old Steven D. Thompson shot 32-year-old Jacqueline Patterson twice in the abdomen, twice in the left thigh, twice in the right thigh, once in the right knee and once in the right calf.
Patterson was taken to Medical Center of South Arkansas after the early Wednesday morning and was listed in guarded condition. Police say Thompson is reportedly Patterson's ex-boyfriend.
Police say Thompson broke into Patterson's house about midnight and fired several shots at her. A bullet grazed the toddler's left leg, but the child was not seriously injured.
Police say Patterson's 11-year-old son heard the shooting, and that he saw Thompson leaving the house with a handgun.
Thompson was arrested on charges of second-degree battery, possession of a firearm by certain persons and residential burglary. After the shooting, authorities say Thompson stole a log truck and crashed it. He was treated at a Camden hospital for minor injuries and arrested after his release.
