LITTLE ROCK, AR - Governor Beebe said today that he's been talking with foreign companies about investing in efforts to turn agricultural waste into fuel.
Beebe says the state has spoken with research groups and investors about establishing plants that could turn biomass such as switchgrass and corn stalks into fuel. Beebe says waste materials could be used to create biofuels without creating a whole new delivery system.
Beebe spoke on his monthly radio call-in show today.
Beebe said establishing a plant to turn biomass into fuel is an expensive venture, costing perhaps up to $600 million.
Beebe says the project is on the front burner, but says he does not yet have an announcement planned.
