Today [June 12, 2007], there are special elections taking place in various communities across Region 8.
In Pocahontas, citizens have the opportunity to vote on a one-quarter cent increase in the sales tax portion earmarked for economic development; that increase would be used by the city to purchase the Randolph County Medical Center.
If citizens approve this tax it would increase the tax to a full cent. Most government and business entities in Pocahontas and Randolph County have said they favor this plan.
Having the hospital remain open is vital to the community and we would like to add our support for the project.
