State Audit Finds Puxico in Poor Financial Shape

PUXICO, MO - The Missouri Auditor's office says the city of Puxico is in financial trouble.

The office says the city in Stoddard County has a deficit of $186,000.

It says the city has been using restricted funds, such as the water and street funds, to cover general operations of the city.

The audit report cited poor budgeting, receipt-keeping and a general lack of knowledge about certain policies and procedures to keep track of the city's money.

State Auditor Susan Montee's office began the audit after receiving a citizen's petition.
