High Court Cautions Region 8 Lawmaker

LITTLE ROCK, AR - A state senator from Region 8 was cautioned today by the Supreme Court's Committee on Professional Conduct for not filing documents properly in a child support case.

The panel found that Shawn Womack, an attorney who is also a Republican state Senator from Mountain Home, violated two rules of professional conduct for not filing an order in a case in which he represented a Gassville woman who was owed unpaid child support.

The seven-member panel issued a caution, the lowest level of public sanction, and ordered Womack to pay $50 for case costs.  Catherine Miller accused Womack of not filing an order in her case to receive child support from the father of her son.

The panel said Womack violated rules requiring attorneys to act with diligence and promptness and a rule requiring them to keep clients reasonably informed.

The seven-member panel unanimously dismissed a complaint that he violated a rule preventing attorneys from engaging in conduct prejudicial to the Administration of Justice.
