Cape Girardeau Mattress Salesman Gets Jail Time for Sign

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - An owner of a Cape Girardeau mattress business is serving five days of shock jail time for failing to remove an advertising banner from outside of his business.

It reads only: "Mattresses Matressess Mattresses."

Dennis McDonald has been issued nine summons since last year.  The banner strung between two posts violates the sign ordinance in Cape Girardeau.

McDonald was convicted in April of three violations related to the sign.  He was given probation but was supposed to remove the sign and pay all court costs.

When he didn't, he was put in jail.  City prosecutor Reagan Holliday says she gave him as many warnings as she could before taking legal action.
