Amtrak's Texas Eagle Stops in Jackson County, Passengers BrieflyStranded

NEWPORT, AR - Amtrak's Texas Eagle passenger train had to stop this morning in Jackson County, near Olyphant, leaving around 300 passengers briefly stranded at a remote location south of Newport around 10:15 A.M.

A spokesperson with Amtrak says the Union Pacific Railroad shut the line down to do some work and the train had to stop for the repairs.  He says Amtrak brought in a number of buses to send the nearly 300 passengers on their way to both Illinois and Texas.

The passengers were only delayed about one and a half to two hours.
