Parole Board Recommends Clemency for Convicted Killer from Crittenden County

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Arkansas parole board released recommendations today that a convicted murderer who has spent more than 30 years in prison be granted executive clemency.

The state Post-Prison Transfer Board recommended clemency for 54-year-old Shirley Danner, who was convicted of first degree murder in Crittenden County in 1975 and was sentenced to life in prison.  The board recommended that Danner's sentence be commuted to parole eligible.

Danner, a former prostitute, was convicted of killing a man in West Memphis in 1975.  In her application, she said she wants to go home and help raise her grandchildren.

The recommendation goes to Governor Beebe, who will consider whether to grant clemency.
