Truck Hauling Explosives Overturns on SeMo Road

PATTON, MO - A truck loaded with components used to make a blasting agent overturned late Wednesday afternoon near Patton, in Bollinger County.

The accident happened on Highway 72, just east of Patton, when the truck's driver reportedly failed to brake in time for a car stopped on the road.

The truck, loaded with several different compounds used for explosives in rock quarries, left a trail of skid marks before flipping on its side.

Emergency crews and hazardous materials teams from Bollinger County and southeast Missouri responded, and waited for the chemical company's own haz-mat team to arrive and handle the situation.

Meanwhile, Highway 72 was shut down for several hours, and several homes in the area were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
