DYESS, AR - The annual Dyess Homecoming Days event is set for July 6 & 7 in Johnny Cash's hometown in Mississippi County.
Mickey Gilley and his Urban Cowboy Band will headline the event, which will also include perforances and appearances by television host Gene Williams and his entourage, and Jackson Cash.
"The days are drawing shorter to get those concert tickets," said Williams, a Dyess native who is helping organize the event. "There will be an assortment of country music performers that weekend and free entertainment outdoors. Saturday is the big day with my friend Mickey Gilley and the Urban Cowboy Band and many more performers in the old high school gymnasium that has been remodeled."
The concert featuring Gilley is set for 7 p.m. on July 7. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased by calling 870-764-2101. Proceeds from the concert will go into a fund to restore the historic Administration Building in Dyess for the purpose of a Dyess Colony Museum, Johnny Cash Memorial, and the Gene Williams Museum and City Hall.
Former Capitol Records recording artist Mel McDaniel will also perform in concert on Friday evening, July 6. Tickets for his show are also $25.
