Flood Watch for Parts of Region 8

Jonesboro, AR (KAIT) - The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for much of North Central Arkansas through 4 pm Monday afternoon. Many of the creeks and rivers are up, but not out of their banks.  That could change if more rain falls over the region Sunday.  The only report of flooding problems are in Howell County, where highway 142 is closed at the Bennett Creek crossing, because of the high water.  There are no reports of injuries from the high water.

For the latest weather updates, including the K8 Storm Team Doppler Radar, go to our weather page, watch KAIT's main channel, or 24/7 Weather (digital channel 8.2).

500 AM CDT MON JUL 2 2007

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR A LARGE PART OF ARKANSAS.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT

A SURFACE FRONT WILL REMAIN NEARLY STATIONARY ACROSS CENTRAL
ARKANSAS TODAY. ABUNDANT MOISTURE WILL CONTINUE TO LIFT NORTH OVER
ARKANSAS...RESULTING IN ADDITIONAL SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM
DEVELOPMENT. MOST OF THE RAINFALL WILL BE CONCENTRATED ALONG AND
NORTH OF THE FRONT.

RAINFALL HAS OCCURRED ALREADY OVER PARTS OF CENTRAL AND NORTHERN
ARKANSAS DURING THE PAST 24 HOURS. ANY ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINFALL
TODAY WILL INCREASE THE CHANCES OF FLASH FLOODING. THUS...A
FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR ABOUT THE NORTHERN HALF OF
THE STATE...OR ROUGHLY NORTH OF A WALDRON...CONWAY TO SEARCY
LINE...THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY

THE PERSISTENT UPPER LOW...THAT HAS BEEN MEANDERING OVER THE CENTRAL
AND SOUTHERN PLAINS FOR THE PAST WEEK OR SO...IS EXPECTED TO SINK
SLOWLY TO THE SOUTHWEST. AS SUCH...THERE WILL BE A CONTINUING CHANCE
OF MAINLY LATE AFTERNOON THROUGH EARLY EVENING SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS. SOME OF THE STORMS WILL PRODUCE LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN
WITH THE HIGHER CHANCES OVER THE WESTERN PART OF THE STATE. THE
UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL BE LOCATED IN SOUTHWEST TEXAS BY THE
END OF WEDNESDAY...WHICH WILL ALLOW DRIER AIR TO WORK IN FROM THE
NORTH.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

SPOTTER ACTIVATION IS NOT ANTICIPATED AT THIS TIME.
