Woman Survives Night in Arkansas River after Jump from I-430 Bridge

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Little Rock police say a woman who called her parents to say she was about to jump off the Interstate 430 bridge survived a night in the Arkansas River.

Brandy Priest, 31, was pulled alive from the river yesterday morning.  She had called her parents just before 8 p.m. on Sunday.

The river is running high and swift, which officials say makes her survival all the more remarkable after the fall from the bridge...about six stories up.

Priest's parents told authorities that she had a history of mental illness.  Yesterday, her parents congratulated rescuers.  A Game and Fish Commission officer found Priest on an island in the river about halfway between the bridge and Murray Lock and Dam.
