Condominium Apartments will be Built in Downtown Jonesboro

JONESBORO, AR -- A building of condominium apartments will be built in downtown Jonesboro in an old warehouse building.

A meeting held on Tuesday afternoon with the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission got the property approved to be rezoned from "C-1" commercial to residential.

The downtown area has been growing over the past few years with the addition of the loft apartments several years ago, restaurants, and shops.

Now Clay Young, who is responsible for putting the loft apartments in on Main Street, is taking a building at 217 East Street and transforming it into 14 two story condominiums.

The project started when Young had many of his loft tenants asking if they could buy their apartments.  The new condominiums will be for purchase.  Young wants to bring more people to the area.

"I just thought it would be a challenge to turn it into something different from what it's always been," said Young.

Graham Reese is the designer for the condominiums and said he thinks this would only encourage more movement into downtown.

"I think this is certainly a plus for the downtown neighborhood and the downtown area," said Reese.
