Emerson Joins Democrats on Iraq Vote

WASHINGTON - Republican Jo Ann Emerson joined Missouri's four House Democrats in voting for a measure to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq by next spring.

Missouri's other four Republicans voted against the measure, which passed on a 223-to-201 vote in the Democratic-controlled House.

President Bush has threatened to veto the legislation.   It requires the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops to begin within 120 days, and to be completed by April 1, 2008.

The vote generally followed party lines.

Emerson was among four Republicans who joined 219 Democrats in support.  Ten Democrats and 191 Republicans voted against it.
