AMMC Moving Forward with Plans to Take Over Pocahontas Hospital

POCAHONTAS, AR - Arkansas Methodist Medical Center of Paragould has agreed to take over the hospital in Pocahontas, a move that eased fears that the Randolph County Medical Center could close.

The city of Pocahontas is preparing to purchase the 52-year-old hospital and have it run by the Paragould hospital.

Earlier this year, Pocahontas hospital owner Associated Healthcare Systems of Brentwood, Tennessee, said it was looking for buyers.

In a June special election, 97 percent of voters in Pocahontas agreed to increase the local sales tax a quarter percent to buy and help operate the hospital.
