Drowning in Independence County Ruled Homicide-Suicide

CUSHMAN, AR - The official cause of death of two men who died in the White River near Cushman last week has been ruled as drowning, according to the Arkansas State Crime Lab.

The manner of death for 58-year-old John Bunch was ruled as an accidental suicide, and homicide for 49-year-old Jimmy Dean White, who was a passenger in the vehicle.

The two died on July 8 when Bunch apparently drove his car into the river.  Another passenger in the vehicle, 20-year-old Tanaka Bell, was able to escape from the sinking vehicle and swim to safety.  The car and the bodies of Bunch and White were later located by divers in about 25 feet of water.
