Former Steele City Treasurer Charged with Felony Theft

CARUTHERSVILLE, MO - A former City Treasurer in Steele has been charged with felony stealing, a class B felony, according to Lt. Ryan Holder of the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department.

Holder says 26-year-old Aleyna Riley of Steele appeared before Judge Byron Luber this morning on the charge, which stems from a 7-week investigation by Pemiscot County authorities following allegations of a misappropriation of city funds in Steele.  Riley had held the position for approximately two years before resigning when the allegations arose, according to Holder.

Holder says Riley waived her right to a preliminary hearing and posted bond.  Another court date has not yet been set.
