Lt. Governor Hires Former Arkansas Democratic Party Director as New Chief-Of-Staff

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter says former state Democratic Party director Michael Cook will become his new chief of staff next month.

The 35-year-old Cook will replace outgoing chief Ron Oliver, who is leaving Halter's office to direct the Arkansas Racing Commission.

Cook is president of Cook Consulting, a Little Rock-based strategic communications and public affairs firm.  Cook, who served as executive director of the Democratic Party of Arkansas from 2001 until 2005, managed Halter's campaign for lieutenant governor last year.

Oliver, a former chairman of the state Democratic Party, announced last week he was leaving Halter's office.  Cook will take over his duties effective August 1.
