Former Butler County Clerk Now a Federal Fugitive

POPLAR BLUFF, MO - Federal authorities yesterday issued a warrant for the arrest of former Butler County Clerk John Dunivan.

A U.S. magistrate in St. Louis issued a warrant for "unlawful flight to avoid prosecution."  The 60-year-old Dunivan, of Poplar Bluff, was last seen in the Poplar Bluff area on July 11.  Dunivan served as Butler County Clerk for 20 years before recently retiring.  He is charged with first degree statutory sodomy by Ripley County authorities after accusations of "deviate sexual intercourse" with an 11-year-old girl on June 29.

Dunivan's pick-up truck was found last Friday near Marion, Virginia.
