New: Federal Fugitives Suspected in Home Invasion of Former Tennessee Lawmaker

MEMPHIS, TN - More information is surfacing this morning regarding the Tuesday night arrest in Jonesboro of two suspects, one of whom was considered a federal fugitive.

Police have charged the pair in the home invasion and robbery of a former Tennessee state lawmaker and her husband on their 41st wedding anniversary.

Former Representative Joyce Hassell and her husband Larry were slammed to the floor of their home, tied up and gagged while being held at gunpoint on Tuesday, just hours before the arrest in Jonesboro of Johnny Tate and Brenda Robinson.

Police say the suspects took jewelry, credit cards and electronics and fled in the couple's two Cadillac Escalades.  The vehicles were quickly recovered using global positioning devices.

Tate and Robinson are charged with especially aggravated robbery, especially aggravated kidnapping and especially aggravated burglary.

Tate is also wanted in Minnesota for parole violations and for failure to register as a predatory sex offender and in West Memphis for assault on an officer.
