Car Dealership Burns in Downtown Jonesboro

JONESBORO, AR - The Cavenaugh Lincoln-Mercury car dealership building in downtown Jonesboro is burned this morning and early afternoon.  The dealership has been a staple in downtown Jonesboro for several years.

The fire apparently started at approximately 10:40 a.m. in the dealership's shop building, while mechanics and technicians were working on a car.

One witness at the scene reports hearing a series of several small explosions in the building. Another witness said heat from the flames could be felt from one block away.  A thick plume of black smoke could be seen hovering over much of downtown Jonesboro as a result of the blaze, which is at 300 West Huntington Avenue.

The Jonesboro Fire Dept. has several trucks and crews at the scene.  Several firefighters remain at the scene at this time to make sure no other flames re-flare at the site. No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze.  The dealership's shop and showroom were both destroyed, and ten cars were either damaged or destroyed.
