Hochstetter Resigning from Public Service Commission

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Resigning Arkansas Public Service Commission member Sandra Hochstetter says she will recuse from a decision on whether to permit a $1.4 billion coal-fired power plant in southwest Arkansas.

Hochstetter is taking a job as a vice president with the Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Inc., and that utility is negotiating with Southwestern Electric Power Co. for a stake in the coal-fired plant.

A hearing over the proposed plant is scheduled for Thursday before the regulatory panel.  Governor Beebe will appoint a temporary commissioner to hear the Southwestern Electric case.  Beebe spokesperson Matt DeCample says the governor will later name someone to serve the rest of Hochstetter's term, which runs into 2011.
