Arkansas Bakes as High Pressure System Hovers

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The heat is here and it won't be leaving Arkansas soon.

A high-pressure system remains anchored over central and southern Arkansas, keeping temperatures close to the 100-degree mark.  National Weather Service Meteorologist Lancy Pyle says that those temperatures combined with humidity make it feel more like 105 degrees.

The weather service issued a heat advisory today, warning temperatures will remain high through tomorrow.  So far, Arkansas has recorded two heat-related deaths, according to the state Health Department.  That number could rise as temperatures at night remain in the 70s, providing no respite for air conditioners or those without them, Pyle said.

The heat also bakes the ground, which can also keep temperatures high.

Pyle says some clouds could move in by Friday but won't provide great relief.
