State Inmate from Region 8 Killed in Freak Accident

LITTLE ROCK, AR - An Arkansas prison spokeswoman says a state prisoner in a work release program was killed yesterday when he jumped or fell off industrial equipment used to move cars.

Spokeswoman Dina Tyler says the inmate was crushed to death by the machine.

Tyler says that 28-year-old Cecil Buckner of Tyronza was riding on the machine that an employee of U-Pull-It was driving at the southwest Little Rock business when Buckner jumped or fell as the driver was turning the machine.

Buckner would have been eligible for parole in December.  His death was being categorized as an industrial accident.

Buckner was serving a five-year sentence at the Benton Unit for a 2006 conviction out of Poinsett County on charges of manufacture, delivery and possession of a controlled substance.
