Beebe Mayor Fires Police Chief over Unserved Warrant

BEEBE, AR - The mayor of Beebe says he fired the town's police chief for not promptly serving an arrest warrant for drug possession on a man convicted of murder 15 years ago.

Mayor Mike Robertson says he dismissed Police Chief Don Inns, and that the city is now examining all unserved warrants.

Robertson said Inns placed a note on the warrant for Bryan Colby Chappell, telling other officers not to serve it.  The chief says there was no need to serve the warrant.  He said "Sometimes you hold your bait until you're in a bigger school of fish."

Chappell is on parole from a 40-year sentence for killing a man in Cross County.
