Athletic Trainers on "Heightened Alert" as Heat Wave Continues

PARAGOULD, AR - The intense heat can take a toll on anyone working outside, but you can imagine going through pre-season football practice, dressed out in full pads and helmets.

K8 News has shown you a couple of examples recently of how prep football players are handling the heat this summer, and with more triple-digit temperatures in store for this week, sports medicine trainers at at least one Region 8 hospital will be on heightened alert this week.

Trainers and sports medicine specialists with Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould have changed practice times at the schools they work with, due to the dangerous heat.  AMMC has also trained some area coaches on how to spot symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
