LITTLE ROCK, AR - Governor Beebe says he is concerned that the military is "changing the rules" on the 39th Infantry Brigade by not allowing more time at home before a second deployment.
The Arkansas National Guard announced Tuesday night that the 39th is being called to duty. The 3,200 troops are to report in January for duty of about one year, ten months of which is to be in Iraq. The unit served in Iraq for 18 months in 2004 and 2005.
Beebe says he wished the military would draw on soldiers who have not already been to Iraq. But the governor also says he expects the members of the 39th to obey orders and perform their duties.
Beebe says he's been reassured Arkansas would have enough members of the Guard in state in case of disaster. He says the guard will be at 60 percent strength.
