Brookland Murder Victim Had Criminal Record

BROOKLAND, AR - A Craighead County man who was allegedly murdered by his stepfather Monday night at their home in Brookland apparently had a lengthy criminal record.

K8 News has learned that 31-year-old Brian Doyle had been in and out of the Arkansas Department of Corrections since he pleaded guilty to a manslaughter charge in Sharp County in 1994.

Doyle had in fact, been released from the DOC as recently as May.

Craighead County sheriff's deputies arrested Doyle's stepfather, Toby Barnett, on first degree murder charges Monday night in connection with the fatal stabbing of Doyle.  The incident occured around 7 p.m. Monday.  Doyle died following emergency surgery at a Jonesboro hospital at approximately 3 a.m. Tuesday morning.
