JONESBORO-The corner of Caraway and Highland could soon get a facelift as well as a name change.
"I think another few days and we're going to be in a position to go ahead and make an announcement that we've aquired the property," said Bruce Burrow.
The property once known as the Indian Mall will become the Shoppes of Caraland.
The new location, much like the Mall of Turtle Creek will be be fresh with lots of modern architecture.
"A lot of landscaping, a lot of lighting. We have a chance to do something really upscale here. Maybe a couple of two story opportunities," said Burrow.
He says, the new shopping center is one that reaches more into the sky, and will create more green space.
In fact, the new development will add nearly three acres of green space, and more parking. It is expected this will even alleviate some of the drainage issues for the area--a big concern to the City.
"We were able to meet with the Mayor and the staff and we had a good meeting and came to an agreement with regard the city expects, what we expect and that carried on to the city council and they ratified it. And so now we believe that we're all on the same page and we're looking forward in that regard," said Burrow.
As far as when construction could start on the new development, Burrow says that's just one of many steps in that will take place in the next few months.
"Well, we're under contract. Generally our contracts give us a time period to do our site investigations, project investigations. We call it 'due diligence,'" said Burrow.
Due diligence that will eventually bring new life to one of Jonesboro's busiest retail areas.
As far as any names, Burrow said it's still to early in the game to say who will plant in the new Shoppes of Caraland, but he did say he's talking to several retail outlets who were not part of the Mall of Turtle Creek and that still want to make Jonesboro home.
