LITTLE ROCK, AR - The federal Census Bureau says the poverty rate in Arkansas rose from 15.8 percent in 2000 to 17.3 percent last year.
Also, estimates show 19 percent of the state's population did not have health-care coverage in the past three years. That is one of the highest rates in the nation. The poverty rate is the percentage of people living below poverty.
The poverty level differs by family size and makeup. For example, for a family of four with two children, the poverty level is $20,444.
