ATF Agents, Bootheel DTF Launch Sting

CARUTHERSVILLE, MO - Local and federal law enforcement officers launched a narcotics and weapons sting yesterday in Pemiscot County, yielding five firearms, drugs, a large amount of cash and two vehicles.

At least 8 arrests were made in connection with the sting, but the names of the suspects have not yet been released.

The investigation was led by the Bootheel Drug Task Force and agents with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, with assistance from the Caruthersville Police Dept. and the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Dept.

According to Sheriff Tommy Greenwell, "Task Force and ATF agents made several illegal narcotics and weapons purchases yesterday that lead to two search warrants being issued for two separate residences in Caruthersville."  The sting yielded five handguns, two of which were reported stolen, and a sawed-off shotgun, as well as approximately $5,000 worth of cocaine.

Greenwell says more arrests are expected, and "federal indictments are forthcoming."
