SeMo Red Cross Volunteers Respond to Midwest Floods

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - Four volunteers from the southeast Missouri chapter of the American Red Cross have deployed to assist residents of the Midwest and South-Cental United States, where heavy rains and flooding have submerged thousands of homes and left 22 people dead.  The Red Cross is responding to flooding in Illinois, Ohio and Minnesota by providing food, shelter, counseling and other asssistance.

The Red Cross has opened shelters, providing residents with a dry place to stay and hot meals.  Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicles are driving through flooded communities distributing food, clean-up kits and comfort kits to families, individuals and rescue workers who cannot make it to a shelter or are involved with clean-up efforts.  Red Cross mental health professionals are helping families and individuals cope with fear and stress from the trauma of flood disasters.
