Lawmaker Wants to Snuff Out Snuff at State Capitol

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Some Arkansas legislators may need to hide their cans of Skoal and spit cups when they return for their regular session in 2009.

A state representative says she plans to file legislation banning lawmakers from using chewing tobacco in the state Capitol, after abandoning attempts to change House rules to prohibit the practice.  Governor Beebe later indicated he would support such a ban.

Rep. Pam Adcock proposed changing the House rules, which already prohibit smoking, to ban all forms of tobacco from being used on the House floor or in committee rooms.
