Man Leads GreeneCo Authorities on High-Speed Chase

PARAGOULD, AR - A man identified as Gerald Heath Sweeney is in custody at the Greene County Jail this morning after leading Paragould police on a high-speed chase that began in their own jurisdiction, before ending in Brookland.

The PPD says Sweeney led them on a chase through Paragould, onto U.S. 49 South, where Sweeney's vehicle hit speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.

The chase then crossed into northeastern Craighead County, where Brookland police put down spike strips on the highway to blow out Sweeney's tires, thus ending the chase.

Sweeney sustained minor injuries and was taken to Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould for treatment, before he was booked and jailed.

Police say they found alcohol in Sweeney's vehicle, and believe he was intoxicated at the time of the pursuit.
