Lawmakers Pass Economic Development Bill

JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Missouri lawmakers have given final approval to an economic development bill authorizing $66 million a year in new tax breaks.

The tax credits would go to businesses, their investors, developers, beef cattle farmers and movie makers.  The bill also would legalize ticket scalping.

The House vote yesterday followed a similar one by the Senate.

The legislation now goes to Governor Blunt, who called lawmakers into special session after vetoing an economic development bill passed during the regular session.

Blunt claimed the original bill could have cost $200 million and awarded tax breaks to some questionable causes.

Lawmakers also gave final approval to a bill intended to speed up bridge repairs.
