Beebe Unlikely to Grant Clemency Request to Jones

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Governor Beebe says he is not likely to grant a condemned man's clemency request considering a recommendation from the state Parole Board that would allow the execution to go forward.

Beebe previously set an October 16 execution date for Jack Harold Jones, Jr., who was convicted of the rape and killing of Bald Knob bookkeeper Mary Phillips and the attack on her 11-year-old daughter.

The parole board recommended the governor deny Jones' request for clemency.  And the governor says that unless there is some compelling reason to intervene, he will follow the judgement of the jury and the courts.
