Felony Charges Filed against Couple that had Kids in Hot Truck

BENTONVILLE, AR - A couple accused of keeping three children in the back of a rental truck on a hot day face felony child endangerment counts.

A Benton County sheriff's deputy made a traffic stop on August 2 in Rogers, and reported he heard children in the back yelling and banging to get out.  The temperature was about 90 degrees that day.

David Wayne Wright and wife Tara Lee Wright were charged yesterday with felonies and are to be arraigned tomorrow.

Authorities say the Wrights were babysitting the boys...9-year-old twins and their 11-year-old brother, as they drove around and made stops to look for scrap metal.  The children didn't have water in the back of the truck, authorities said.

The deputy put the children in the back of his cruiser and bought them something to drink.  The boys didn't suffer serious harm and were released to their mother, who had been at work.

David Wright was also arrested in connection with felony failure to appear, misdemeanor driving on a suspended driver's license, three counts of no child safety restraint and improper display of a license plate, which was the original cause of the traffic stop.
