Johnny Cash Gospel Documentary to Make Cinematic Debut in Paragould

PARAGOULD, AR - American music icon and Region 8 native Johnny Cash waged a life-long struggle for salvation, and that spiritual odyssey is the subject of a new music documentary, 'The Gospel Music of Johnny Cash: A Story of Faith and Redemption,' which will make its cinematic debut in Paragould Friday night at the Paragould Cinema 8 theater.

The 90-minute film is produced by Gaither Television Productions and directed by award-winning director Michael Merriman.  CBS news anchor and reporter Dan Rather narrarates the film, and Rector native Bill Carter served as the project's executive director.

Filmed in cooperation with Cash's estate, the documentary features footage of vintage Cash performances from several Billy Graham crusades as well as Cash's popular ABC television show from the 1970s.  Personal interviews with family, friends and musical associates are punctuated with rarely-seen photos from family albums and the personal archives of Cash's close friends, such as country music artist Marty Stuart.

Cash grew up in the small community of Dyess, in Mississippi County.
