State's Congressional Delegation View President's Speech Differently

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The state's junior senator, a Democrat, says President Bush's speech last night on Iraq fell short of what Arkansans want.  But the state's only Republican congressman sees the speech as an "important change to a new direction" in the war in Iraq.

Congressman John Boozman said Bush's announcement that more than 20 percent of American troops in Iraq would be withdrawn over the next nine months was "the fruit of the labor by the men and women serving in Iraq."

But U.S. Senator Mark Pryor, a Democrat, said Bush was only trying to put the best face on a very difficult situation in Iraq.

Pryor said that, in recent conversations with Arkansans around the state, he had heard a lot about the war in Iraq.  He said that what the people of Arkansas want to know is that Iraq is worth it, and added that "They didn't get that tonight."
