Police Recover Child Abducted from Newport

NEWPORT, AR - Detective Patrick Weatherford of the Newport Police Dept. says an eight-year-old girl who was abducted by a non-custodial parent last month has been safely recovered in Vancouver, Washington.

Evana Taylor was abducted from Newport on August 5.  The suspect, Evelyn Taylor, has been arrested and is in police custody in Vancouver.  Evana Taylor is currently in the custody of Washington Child Protective Services pending her return to Arkansas. 

The arrest of the suspect and recovery of the child occured Monday evening, with the assistance of the Vancouver Police Dept. and the U.S. Marshall's Service's Portland, Oregon office. 

Evelyn Taylor faces felony interference with custody, which carries a maximum sentence of six years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.  She is expected to be returned to Arkansas soon.
